Setup

The MVP service setup begins with creating the organization account using the MVP Setup WizardThe system administrator for your account creates the company record, as well as site and location records for the various business locations you may support.

Once the company and site records are created and the number of nodes (computers) to be protected is specified, the MVP system then creates a unique installation and identification key for each node.

The next step in the setup process is to enter the node configuration information in the MVP database.  Node configuration information contains

The unique key assigned to this node

The user name and email address for the assigned user of this node (if applicable)

The MAC address (physical address) of this node

The name (computer name; IP host name) of this node

Get instructions for obtaining your computer's MAC address and name

Accessing the MVP node configuration may be done in one of two ways:

The MVP setup wizard allows the system administrator to email the configuration pages for each unique node to the user of that computer.  When launched, the page displayed contains the unique key and other information specific to this node.  The MAC address and computer names are then entered on this page and saved to the MVP database.

The system administrator can login directly to the MyMVP management service, and directly enter node configuration information to the MVP database.

The system is able to identify your computer when it reports to the server only after the node configuration information has been posted to the MVP database,

It is extremely important that you remove and uninstall any anti-virus software already present on your computer prior to installing the ePO Agent Software.  The MVP service will be unable to complete installation and will not function properly if other anti-virus software is present on the computer.

If you are a current user of McAfee anti-virus products and have subscribed to MVP for management for those products, you may leave your VirusScan or VirusScan TC software installed on your computer.  The ePO Agent, when it reports to the MVP servers, will acknowledge that the software is already present on your computer and will begin managing that software.

The next step in the setup process is to download and install the ePO Agent Software.  The links to this download are provided to the system administrator, and to each user who receives configuration links via email.  Download the file to the desktop of your computer, and then execute (open) it once the download is completed.  The agent installation will proceed automatically.

Once the agent has successfully installed, you will see the ePO Agent icon appear in the system tray of your computer.  The agent communicates with the ePO server and downloads the security policies and tasks.  One of the first tasks the agent receives is to download and install the appropriate scanning software.

The ePO server is able to identify the node by cross-referencing the computer name and MAC address listed in the MVP database.   Based on the operating system type or software subscribed for the reporting node, the ePO server then distributes the appropriate software to the nodes for automatic installation.  Depending on the software being delivered to your node and the speed of your Internet connection, this process could take several hours to perform.  When the scanning software has been fully installed, the McAfee shield icon is displayed in the system tray of your computer.

Caution! Your computer is not protected from virus threats until both the ePO Agent and the McAfee shield icons are displayed in the system tray of your computer.

Glossary

Active
An active node is one unit of MVP service that has been assigned to a specific workstation and is in current use.

Available
An available node is one that has been purchased, but has yet to be assigned to a specific workstation.

Computer Name
The name used to refer to your computer on your internal network, also known as the "host name".

ePolicy Orchestrator
McAfee server technology that allows MVP to update anti-virus files on each protected computer.

MAC Address
An acronym for a computer's Media Access Control address. The MAC address comes from the network card. Every network card is manufactured with a unique MAC address. We use this unique identifier to distinguish each computer reporting to our ePO server.

McAfee
The global leader in anti-virus software; a business unit of Network Associates. The MVP service is built with McAfee's Electronic Policy Orchestrator (ePO) and VirusScan technologies. Visit www.mcafeeb2b.com for more information on these core technologies.

MVP
An acronym for InsynQ's Managed Virus Protection service.

Node
A node represents one protected computer. MVP services are purchased by the node.

Pending
A pending node has been assigned to a specific workstation, but is still in the configuration process. When configuration is complete (usually within two working days), the node will be updated to Active status.

Removed
Removed nodes are those that have been removed from service and are no longer active. A node will be placed into the removed list if the service term expires or if the customer chooses to delete the service.

Renewal
Each node will be renewed automatically before the service term expires. A renewal includes annual fees only; no set up fee is charged.

Valid
Valid nodes are those those in Available, Pending, or Active status. Removed nodes are excluded. Valid node quantities are summarized in My Node Inventory at the top of the My MVP management page.

VirusScan TC
The McAfee thin client software that runs on each client computer. Much smaller than a traditional anti-virus program, the "thin" technology is used in combination with robust central delivery

Clean a virus from your computer NOW

Follow these instructions to scan for viruses in DOS on your PC.  It is critical that your system be clean and free of viruses BEFORE you attempt to install any anti-virus software.  In most cases, anti-virus software will not install completely or correctly on systems that are already infected.

To scan for viruses in DOS, do the following:

1. Go to http://bin.mcafee.com/molbin/iss-loc/vso/cmdscan/dailyscan.zip.
2. A File Download box appears. Click 'OK' and save DailyScan.zip to your desktop.
3. Once the file has finished downloading, close all windows and right click DailyScan.zip. Click 'Extract to...'.
4. In the 'Extract to' field, type C:\DAILYSCAN and click 'Extract'.
5. Restart the computer in DOS mode.
6. You will see a prompt similar to C:\Windows>. If there is anything after C:\ type CD\ and press the 'Enter' key, otherwise skip to step 7.
7. Once the C:\> prompt appears, type CD DAILYS~1 and press the 'Enter' key.
Note: If you booted with a floppy disk, you will need to precede steps 6 and 7 by typing C: and press the 'Enter' key.
8. Type SCANPM /ADL /CLEAN /ALL /REPORT REPORT.TXT and press the 'Enter' key.

The scanner will look at all files on all local drives and attempt to clean the files. An activity report called REPORT.TXT will also be created in the C:\DAILYS~1 directory. To view the report in DOS, please type TYPE REPORT.TXT and press the 'Enter' key.

Misc

Follow these instructions to get the computer name and MAC address of each computer to protect with MVP.  The instructions vary depending on the operating system running on your computer.

Windows NT/2000/XP

Start

Run

cmd [enter]

from the command prompt, type ipconfig /all [enter]

Your computer name is shown as the Host Name

Your MAC address is shown as the Physical Address

Windows 95/98

Start

Run

cmd [enter]

from the command prompt, type winipcfg /all [enter]

Your computer name is shown as the Host Name

Your MAC address is shown as the Adapter Address

**note: If you have a dialup adapter installed on this computer, it will usually be displayed first in the list.  Make sure to select the network adapter to obtain the correct MAC (adapter) address.   All dialup adapters use the same adapter address.  If you submit this address as your node address, the MVP service will not be able to identify your computer and will not be able to manage it.
