Why doesn't ... ?

The McAfee Shield Icon show up in my system tray immediately? In order for you to receive the necessary software to protect your computer, MVP must be able to identify the "node" when it reports to our servers.  Your computer begins reporting to our MVP servers when it is connected to the Internet, and when the ePO Agent software has been installed (you'll see the agent icon in the system tray).  Our MVP servers will be able to identify your computer only if the computer name and MAC Address have been properly configured.  This is the only way that the MVP servers are able to identify your computer send it the software it needs.  The speed of your Internet connect, as well as the type of software being sent to your computer, will impact how fast the software download and installation go.

My computer get protected as soon as I sign up for the service?  You computer is protected only when agent and scanning software have both been installed.  The time it takes to download and install the software is not an absolute due to variations in computer speeds and configurations and variations in Internet connection speeds.  Further, the configuration information for your computer must be accurate, or our servers will not be able to identify it and therefore will not send any software.  The MVP servers only view and deliver software to new nodes Monday through Friday.  All configured nodes already being protected are automatically updated when they  report to the MVP servers 24x7x365.

MVP work with other anti-virus software?  Different anti-virus solutions use different technologies.  In many cases, one a-v solution is viewed as a potential virus threat by another a-v solution on the same computer.  In order for your anti-virus software - ANY anti-virus software - to work well, no other a-v software should be installed or present on the computer.

If you are currently using McAfee VirusScan or VirusScan TC, MVP can provide management for that software.  We simply install the ePO Agent on the computer, and MVP detects that the appropriate scanning software is already present on the machine.  MVP will then manage policies and update the node during the life of the node license from McAfee.
